About

Overview

The Lake County Rd 301 (Fors Rd) To Minnesota Highway 1 Trailhead section is one of the more challenging parts of the Superior Hiking Trail. Within that section, the Silver Bay to Tettegouche State Park and Highway 1 trail is considered “very challenging”. Hikers who brave this section are rewarded with spectacular views of Lake Superior and inland bluffs. It is a popular fall colors hike.

Palisade Valley SHT...

I hiked up Mt. Trudee in Tettegouche State Park on the SHT and from Mt. Trudee were views of the Palisade Creek Valley below and there were views of some Tettegouche lakes, and vast forest etc. There were also views looking up the shore and irregular rugged hilly terrain. Palisade Valley was pretty much directly below Mt. Trudee and the small creek starting out in this valley flows on down to Lake Superior near Palisade Head. Hence the small stream is named Palisade Creek. Beautiful and popular State Park as well as section of the SHT.

Some have referred to Tettegouche State Park as the Crown Jewel of the North Shore Parks due to its spectacular scenery inland, its Lake Superior shoreline, High Falls and campsites and accommodations as well as a nice visitor center. Each state park has its own beauty and any are worth a visit in my opinion. I have only hiked up top Mt. Trudee once but have hiked into the Tettegouche Camp near Mic Mac Lake and hiked other areas of the park. A person could spend a lifetime hiking trails and never be able to do them all. There are so many throughout the state.

About

Jul 9, 2020

Went out for a weekend long, impromptu backpacking trip through Silver Bay on the Superior Hiking Trail with my friend, Mark. This was my first time backpacking and yes...I initially had no gear whatsoever, nor did we have any idea of what trail we would hike, as we were driving up. I also rolled my ankle an hour in, while recording-so be careful when you hike and record-but we made it through to the end, 1 and a half days and 19 miles later.
