Unmanaged and Other Natural Areas

Felton Prairie is not really unmanaged and it is not really a site. It is a collection of many managed sites totalling 2,900 acres scattered over a 30 square mile area of Clay County. It includes areas managed by Clay County, the Minnesota DNR, The Nature Conservancy, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Sax-Zim Bog is an area, not a site. It is 247 square miles of prime birding habitat in St. Louis County. About half of the land in the area is owned by the county. The area includes four wildlife management areas: Sax WMA, Zim WMA, Femroy WMA, and Little Whiteface River WMA. Outside of these WMAs, the best way to explore the area is in a car.
