About
Published on Jun 2, 2014 Putty Root orchid (Aplectrum hyemale), also known as Adam-and-Eve orchid, is native to the eastern USA and Canada. The plant is called putty root because the tuber contains a sticky substance that was used to mend pots. The name Adam-and Eve comes from the observation that the tuber divides in two. The single striped leaf appears in the fall, persists through the winter, and usually disappears before the tiny flowers appear in late spring. Transylvania County, NC. |
