Overview

History

In 1970 the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service acquired, through a land exchange with the U.S. Department of Justice, a 2,045-acre tract in Pine County, Minnesota. This tract became the Sandstone Unit of the Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge. On June 12, 2013, through another land exchange, the Sandstone Unit was transferred to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and became Sandstone Wildlife Management Area.
