Description

Hypomyces is a genus of fungi that parasitize other fungi. Most species are host-specific, so that identifying the Hypomyces species requires identifying the host. Hypomyces polyporinus parasitizes bracket fungi in the genus Trametes.

Hypomyces polyporinus occurs in Europe and North America. It occurs in the United States and southern Canada east of the Great Plains.

Hypomyces polyporinus forms a distinctive, white, web-like structure on the surface of the polypore.
