This recreation area was developed for the fisherman, biker, and mountain biker. The only hiking trail is near the Portsmouth Campground. It is about 350 yards long.

Hunting and Fishing

Hunting is an allowed activity in state recreation areas.

Much of Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is open to public hunting but closed to trapping.

About

Cuyuna Country Recreation Area features the finest purpose built mountain bike trails in the Midwest along with having the clearest scuba diving waters in the midwest. This 5,000 acre park has a paved bike trail, camping, hiking and cross country skiing.

Whooping Crane

Minnesota does not contain a breeding or captive population of Whooping Cranes. It is not a stopover site and is not on the migratory flyway. Nevertheless, a sighting of a Whooping Crane in this park was reported in 1906.
