Root River State Trail

Chris, my dad, and I went for a ride along the Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail and the Root River State Trail. We rode from Preston to Lanesboro (I think), where we had a rest at a bar and then returned. Very beautiful trail and scenery. I just wish it actually connected to more destinations closer to the cities, rather than being all isolated out in the middle of rural SE Minnesota.

Cycling the Driftless Region | PART 1: THE ROOT RIVER TRAIL
Roland & Julianna: Bicycle Tourists

About

Nov 10, 2023

The Driftless Region is an area along the upper Mississippi River, perfect for bicycle touring, and the focus of this new series. Going solo this time, I head to Minnesota to ride the Root River Trail, one of the prettiest Rail Trails in the U.S. Along the way I discover the small towns, wooded river valleys, and beautiful farmland that make this region one of the most scenic in the entire country. Since Julianna isn’t with me this time, perhaps you could join me? I could definitely use the company!

Root River Trail Lanesboro, Minnesota

About

Oct 16, 2022

I spent a few days exploring the Root River bike trail staying in Lanesboro, Minnesota parked at a campground. One day, I was joined by John Bacon for a 60 mile ride to one end (Houston) and back. This trail is in southwestern Minnesota near the Mississippi River, Wisconsin and Iowa. Beautiful area.
