Ceutorhynchus is a very large genus of very small weevils. It is the largest genus of minute seed weevils (subfamily Ceutorhynchinae). They occur across Europe and North America. There are at least 400 described Ceutorhynchus species worldwide, 68 species in North America north of Mexico, and at least 10 species in Minnesota.
Adults are active in the spring and summer. They are found mostly on plants in the mustard (Brassicaceae) family. A few are agricultural pests, harming seed crops of cabbage, turnip, and rutabaga. The cabbage seedpod weevil (Ceutorhynchus obstrictus) is a serious pest of canola and oilseed rape in North America..
Adults are very small, 1⁄16″to ⅛″ (2 to 4 mm) in length. The beak-like projection of the head containing the mouthparts (rostrum) is slender, curved, and very long, about half as long as the body. The antennae have 11 segments and are elbowed and clubbed. The last part of the leg (tarsus), corresponding to the foot, has 5 segments. At the end of the last tarsal segment there are two claws.
