Neolygus is a large genus of plant bugs. There are at least 110 described Neolygus species worldwide, about 40 species in North America north of Mexico, and at least 15 species in Minnesota. Most species inhabit deciduous trees or shrubs, though a few are associated with conifers. Several are significant agricultural pests of fruit crops. |

Description |
||
Neolygus species are moderate-sized, oval to elongated-oval, soft-bodied, true bugs. The background color may be green or brown. The antennae have four segments. The second segment is very long, longer than the pronotum is wide at the base. The fourth segment (tibia) of each leg is armed with numerous small spines. Each spine rises from a black spot. |

Species in this genus were originally placed in the genus Lygus in 1917. They were subgroup Neolygusof Group VI (communis group). In 1952 Neolygus was raised to subgenus status. In 1963 most Lygus species were transferred to the genus Lygocoris. In 2002 all of the subgenera were raised to species level, leaving just two species in Lygocoris. |

This genus has no common name. The common name of the family Miridae is plant bugs, and it is applied here for convenience. |
