Scudder’s bush katydid

Overview

Scudderia is a genus of broad-winged katydids. They occur throughout North America from southern Canada to southern Mexico. There are at least 21 species worldwide, 8 species in North America north of Mexico, and 5 species in Minnesota. They are found in deciduous forests, woodlands, and shrublands. Nymphs feed mostly on flowers. Adults feed on the leaves of a variety of plants, especially deciduous woody plants.

Identification

Adult Scudder’s bush katydids have very long legs and narrow straight wings. On nymphs, the antennae have black and white bands, and have a small pointed projection between the antennae bases.
