About
Published on Aug 27, 2013 The Eastern Kingbird is a common flycatcher throughout most of North America. It can be seen in open country, woodland clearings, orchards, farms, roadsides, wires. It is black above, white below with a conspicuous white band at tip of its dark tail. A red crown patch is usually concealed. It sits on exposed perches and sallies forth to snap up insects. It chases away much larger birds by diving on their backs. The song is a high squeaky chattering "kt'zee" and "zeer" calls sounding like electrical sparks. |
