  In early spring the north-facing slope between the lower and upper terraces reveals hundreds of American pasqueflowers.

  This part of the prairie underwent a prescribed burn in the spring of 2017.   In the spring of 2018 it was dominated by little bluestem.

About

This gravel prairie community was formed of glacial outwash atop an isolated terrace of the Cannon River, now 30 feet above the surrounding lower terraces. Even from a mile away, this prairie is a striking feature on the landscape.
